The latest LPGA event featuring Kiwi Lydia Ko has been cut in half due to heavy rain at the Old American Golf Club in Dallas.

Usually golf tournaments consist of playing 72 holes over four days, but the LPGA has just confirmed that Texas LPGA will now be a 36-hole tournament as the weather has delayed most of the weekend's competition.

Earlier in the day, the LPGA cut the event to 54 holes, but the rain hasn't eased up, and it has been forced to reduce it even more.

The first round was postponed from Thursday (Friday NZ time) after only 34 of the 144 golfers completed one or two holes because of morning rain and afternoon wind.

"The Texas LPGA has now been shortened to 36 holes," a post on Twitter said.

"Play will resume today at 3:30pm CT (8:30 am NZ time), as early-morning fog, is in the forecast for Saturday.

"The goal is to complete 36 holes by Sunday evening (Monday afternoon NZ time). If not, we'll go into Monday (Tuesday NZ time) to complete the event."

If play begins, it will be done without fans because of conditions on the course and unpaved parking areas.

In good news, there is no rain expected over the next three days in Dallas.
