A Chinese restaurant has pulled posters advertising discounts to women depending on their bra size, after complaints over the bizarre promotion.

The Qianjiang Evening Post reports that people complained to the local council when posters appeared advertising the cheaper deals - based on cup size.

Just what exactly the size of a woman's breasts has to do with the price of food is debatable to say the very least, but the Trendy Shrimp restaurant in Hangzhou stuck to its guns initially.

General manager Lan Shenggang defended their sales strategy to the BBC.

"Once the promotion started, customer numbers rose by about 20 percent," Mr Shenggang said, adding that "some of the girls we met were very proud - they had nothing to hide."

He went on to insist that customers could "avoid embarrassment" by claiming their discounts from waitresses rather than dealing with male staff.

But the posters disappeared after complaints from irate locals.

One, a 'Ms Zhu', told the Evening Post she was "very angry" and complained to the mayoral hotline.

"This content has been involved in vulgar advertising. In addition, I think it is discrimination against women," she said.

It's unclear whether Trendy Shrimp is still offering the discounts, but it seems the posters won't be reappearing anytime soon.
