Las Vegas shooting: Victims identified

The death toll from the shooting at a music festival in Las Vegas overnight has reached at least 59 with more than 500 people injured.

The identities of those killed have started to emerge:

Angie Gomez

Angie Gomez was a cheerleader from California who was at the music festival when the shooting happened.

A GoFundMe page set up for her family has already raised more than NZD $45,000.

Bailey Schweitzer

The 20-year-old was at the festival with her mother and best friend.

Susan Smith

Ms Smith was from California and worked with school children and families.

Her workplace posted the news on their Facebook page.

"Our hearts are full of sorrow for the passing of Susan Smith. She was a wonderful woman, an advocate for our children, and a friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family," the post read. 

Quinton Robbins

ITV News reports Quinton was a current student at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and his death was confirmed by his auntie who described him as a kind and loving soul.

"Everyone who met him, loved him. His contagious laugh and smile. He was truly an amazing person. He will be missed by so many, he is loved by so many."

Jessica Klymchuk

It has been reported Ms Klymchuk was on holiday from Canada during the festival.

The Mayor of Edmonton confirmed her death saying, "our hearts are all broken. We will rally for Jessica's children and family."

Denise Salmon Burditus

Denise was with her husband at the festival and posted a photo earlier in the evening.

Her husband Tony posted to Facebook explaining she was soon to be a grandmother for the fifth time.

"It saddens me to say that I lost my wife of 32 years, a mother of 2, soon to be grandmother of 5 this evening in the Las Vegas shooting," he wrote.

"Denise passed in my arms."

Adrian Murfitt

Mr Murfitt was a fisherman from Alaska and was at the music festival with his friend.

It has been reported he was shot in the neck and died in his friend's arms.

Rachel Parker

Ms Parker worked for the Manhattan Beach Police Department for the past 10 years.

It has been reported multiple other off-duty officers also died in the shooting.

Sonny Melton

The wife of Sonny Melton has spoken of his heroics in sacrificing himself to protect her.

CBS News reports Mr Melton, who was a nurse from Tennessee, shielded his wife when the shooting started.

"At this point, I'm in complete disbelief and despair. I don't know what to say. Sonny was the most kind-hearted, loving man I have ever met. He saved my life and lost his," Mrs Melton said.

Lisa Romero

Lisa Romero was a high school secretary from New Mexico and was in Las Vegas for the music festival.

She has been described as a "sweet and beautiful woman" by a close friend.

Jordan McIldoon

An only child of the McIldoon family, his parents told CBC News, "we just don't know what to do."

Mr McIldoon was a mechanic apprentice in Canada.

Jennifer Topaz

Another victim identified was Jennifer Topaz Irvine, a lawyer from San Diego.

Close friend Thomas Slattery described her as a "kind, generous, and beautiful lady."
