A top scientist is making bold claims that'll have people's heads turning.
Professor David Nutt, former government drugs adviser of Imperial College London, believes synthetic alcohol, called "alcosynth", will replace real alcohol in just a decade or two.
Prof Nutt told International Business Times UK "in another 10 or 20 years, Western societies won't drink alcohol, except on rare occasions".
"Alcosynth will become the preferred drink, in the same way that I can see almost within a decade now in the Western world tobacco and cigarettes will disappear as they're replaced by electronic cigarettes."
The synthetic liquid will reportedly have the same intoxicating effect without the drawbacks.
Prof Nutt says alcosynth is a low-calorie and hangover-free alternative to real alcohol, with all the pleasurable side effects still intact.
He's currently bidding for $12 million of investment to bring the manmade liquid to British, US, European and Canadian markets.
