Police officers in the city of West Covina, California were shocked to discover a donkey leading a group of animals on a night-time stroll through residential streets.
The local police department detailed the late night escape on its Facebook page. The officers were shocked to find the troop of sheep and goats being led by a singular donkey.
"When a police officer reaches the end of his/her career, most of them will say 'I've seen it all'," the post said.
"Well, let's add one more rare call for service to that list."
The animals are believed to have escaped via an unsecured gate at their owners' home.
When they were discovered by police, the animals were drifting through a nearby area and occasionally wandering into residents front gardens.
After some initial unsuccessful attempts to capture the animals, they were eventually caught with the help of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department and their owner was called to collect the animals.
Eventually they were herded back home, safe and uninjured to a secured paddock.
