The Anzac of the Year award has been given to Dr Brian McMahon, who commenced his served in the New Zealand Army 45 years ago.
He enlisted in 1966, and worked with injured soldiers in Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore.
Dr McMahon says the injuries he had seen over the years were horrific, and thanked his wife upon receiving the award, saying he couldn’t have done it without her.
