A Blenheim man attacked as he was walking home from a night of bartending says he was attacked just because he was wearing a pink shirt.
Kent Morgan, 32, was heading home after working a shift at Biddy Kate's Irish Bar when he was jumped from behind and punched in the face repeatedly at around 1am on October 14.
The men yelled out, calling Mr Morgan a "pink shirt-wearing homo", according to Fairfax Media.
"They started yelling at me for ignoring them, and the next thing I know I've been shoved to the ground," Mr Morgan told Fairfax.
"I got up and one of the guys' bodies locked me from behind. The other just stands in front of me and starts taking pot shots to my head."
He says he fought back, throwing a punch and latching into one of the men's face with his teeth.
Mr Morgan ran home and informed his wife.
He was treated at Wairau Hospital for a cut to his left eye and slash on his knuckles.
"Some people are caught in prehistoric ages where guys can't wear pink shirts," says Mr Morgan.
"Well bugger to them because it's one of my favourite colours."
Mr Morgan thinks the attack might be connected to one on Wednesday in which a knife was pulled on a man, on the same corner. The victim had minor injuries and his attackers fled the scene.
Police are still looking for the two offenders.
