Police have named the man whose body washed up on a beach in Mt Maunganui on Wednesday morning.
He was Benjamin Christopher Dahlkamp, 45, from Tauranga.
Police were notified of the body, seen in the surf between the beach and Moturiki Island (also known as Leisure Island), just before 8am on Wednesday.
The man, in his mid-40s, was pulled from the water, fully clothed.
Police say they are providing support to Mr Dahlkamp's family.
