Destiny Church founder Bishop Brian Tamaki has come under fire after a post on Twitter that appeared to suggest he brought money under his control in the same way Jesus was said to have controlled natural elements.
The post reads: "Jesus spoke to a tree/fish/wind/water nd other things...i spoke to a $100 bill early in my life nd said "you nd all your whanau come to me" (sic)".
The post immediately drew widespread criticism from other twitter users, with some brandishing his tweet as "hideous", "blasphemous" and labelling the megachurch founder "revolting", "a fraudster" and "a piece of s***".
The tweet adds to a long sequence of controversial comments made by the megachurch's founder, who has been criticised for his dogged attempts to get substantial monetary donations from his church's congregation.
