A Christchurch red zone resident is helping train Nepalese teams to safely demolish buildings damaged in the Nepal earthquake.
More than 8000 people were killed in the 7.8 magnitude earthquake, which struck Kathmandu in April last year.
Brenden Winder played a key part in the demolition of a number of Christchurch buildings damaged in the earthquake. He's now using his skills to help the Nepalese complete the difficult task of taking down the 950,000 buildings ruined in the quake.
"It's really challenging," he says.
"There isn't the same sort of machinery in Nepal and the number of demolitions to be conducted is absolutely enormous.
"The local capacity and the local capability is limited and our intention is to go and help them build that."
Mr Winder is returning to Nepal later this month to lead the New Zealand Government team of ex-CERA staff and contractors also going to help.
