An explosion at a South Island factory this afternoon required multiple crews to help battle the blaze.
Nine fire engines and two support vehicles were called to the Dongwha Plant south of Gore at about 4.30pm.
The fire began after an explosion in the press room at the factory specialising in wood and melamine building supplies.
Southland area commander Bruce Stubbs said at around 7pm not all the fires had been extinguished, as there were still multiple areas that needed to be cleared around the factory.
The cause of the explosion is not yet known.
No injuries were reported.
