The body of a Taupo Alzheimers sufferer missing since last week has been found near his home.
Police have confirmed the body of 78-year-old man Alan Pritchard was found shortly before midday on Sunday in the forest area north of his Bonshaw Park home by search and rescue teams.
Senior Constable Barry Shepherd said police were sad they weren't able to find Mr Pritchard alive.
"But we are glad we can return him to his family," he says.
He thanked the public for their help in trying to search for him.
Mr Pritchard was last seen putting the rubbish out on Thursday morning.
The searchers were left with no clue as to where he'd gone.
Aside from ground crews, a helicopter was also used in the search.
