A second man has been sentenced in the Auckland District Court for possession of objectionable material.
Niroshan Nawarajan, 27, received five months home detention, after being remanded in custody since January.
He earlier pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, resisting arrest, being found in an enclosed yard, failing to answer bail and possession of offensive weapons.
These are the first sentences of their kind in New Zealand, and the judge admitted he had the unenviable task of paving the way in NZ law.
The charges related to three separate incidents in Christchurch and Auckland.
In January, the US Consulate building in Auckland went into lockdown after he entered, wearing an Islamic Stage (IS) t-shirt, and asked if the building was bomb proof.
He then attempted to assault police officers and yelled "ISIS is here".
A police search then found a hard drive filled with IS execution videos, including hours of graphic and brutal executions, and 12 IS propaganda magazines.
