A series of earthquakes have struck the Christchurch area this morning, the biggest of those being reported as a moderate jolt by GeoNet.
According the website, at around 4:15am a magnitude 3.5 quake with a depth of 10km was felt approximately 10km north-east of Christchurch.
On its Twitter page, the organisation said it had caused "light shaking".
Before that there had been two other weaker jolts in the early hours of the morning, with greater depth but a 3.4 magnitude.
