Tourists and residents alike were shocked by the strength of the magnitude 7.5 earthquake that has shaken New Zealand and produced tsunami waves.
Newshub spoke to people on the streets of Wellington in the hours after the shake.
One Australian man said he was staying in an Airbnb that was “just trashed”.
“We were fast asleep and the building just started moving. I was looking out the window and comparing to the building next door, and it was just swapping,” the man said.
