Labour is accusing National of forcing MPs to vote for change to Easter Sunday trading laws.

The Shop Trading Hours Amendment Bill will mean councils can decide whether retailers can stay open on the public holiday.

Mangere MP Su'a William Sio says the Bill's unpopularity is clear from the fact it only passed by two votes.

"Because of the way that this Government has forced their members to vote for this Bill, we know that there were at least five or six National MPs if they were given the opportunity would not have supported this Bill."

Mr William says Labour would re-examine the law if it's elected next year.
