The mid-season Anzac Test will be axed when the NRL's new television deal starts in 2018.
While the fixture is a highlight for many New Zealand rugby league fans, the match isn't as popular over the ditch, with State of Origin overshadowing it in the television ratings.
Australia have committed to an annual end of year fixture after 2018.
NRL CEO Dave Smith revealed a deal had been struck with Australia's Nine Network to show matches on free-to-air television, confirming international rugby league had been 'given a new priority'.
The AU$925 million deal is the biggest in Australian free-to-air television history and will allow Channel Nine the right to screen matches from Thursday to Sunday.
Other details of the agreement include shortening the NRL season from 26 to 25 weeks, and a new State of Origin schedule with the second match in each series being played on a Sunday night.
This will shift international games to a dedicated window after the NRL season.
"In other words, we are preserving Origin as a marquee event of the year while minimising disruption to the Premiership," Smith said.
"So there will be more live and free Rugby League on television – and that is what the fans want.
"We will be able to schedule the best games when fans want to see them – and ensure all clubs receive the coverage they deserve on free to air television."
The number of live games shown on free-to-air television in Australia will also increase from two to four.
New Zealand Rugby League told 3 News they were still seeking clarification on what the deals means for the future of the Anzac Test.
