The future of Breakers star Corey Webster is up in the air, with the New Zealand franchise placing him on an injury waiver.
The shooting guard will miss tomorrow night’s home game with Perth Wildcats, but there is no timeline for his return.
Head coach Paul Henare said it was one of the toughest calls he has had to make in his coaching career.
"Corey has been battling injury throughout the season but it has become increasingly clear that he is not able to play at the level he is used to nor indeed the level that we as a team need him to be operating at,” Henare said.
"We have made the call to give Corey that chance to get himself fully fit, to seek out the best rehab programme available away from the pressure of playing, training and travelling.
The 37-year-old said he didn't know how long Webster would be out for.
"What the detail of that plan looks like we don’t know just yet, how long it takes we don’t know yet, but we felt it was time for him to step back and get himself healthy.
"Corey is one of our premier players we have made this call with the good of the team and Corey top of mind."
Webster was disappointed at the news.
"I am just so frustrated, this has been a difficult season for me and a constant struggle to be 100 percent healthy, to be 100 percent right physically and mentally," Webster said.
"This decision is not easy either and is hard to accept to be honest, I am a player and just want to play and contribute."
Webster is due to appear in court for a second time on December 20, relating to an assault charge in Takapuna.
