A 13-year-old Brisbane student has taken his own life after enduring years of bullying over his sexuality.
Tyrone Unsworth suffered the homophobic abuse at Aspley State High School.
"Tyrone ended up being gay and a lot of people started picking on him," his mother Amanda Unsworth told Brisbane's Courier Mail.
"He was a really feminine male, he loved fashion, he loved make-up and the boys always picked on him, calling him gay-boy, f****t, fairy; it was a constant thing from Year 5.
"I feel like these people who were bullying Tyrone are the cause of why he is not here any more. They pushed him to the edge."
Soon, the bullying turned violent. Tyrone was hospitalised after a brutal beating outside of the school grounds.
His mother says he was hit in the jaw with a fence paling - and his wounds were so bad he required surgery. After this, Tyrone begged not to return to school.
"When he came out of hospital he was a different boy ... he just kept telling us all 'I don't want to go to school, I don't want to end up back at hospital'," his grandmother Twiggy Jones says.
Soon after this, Tyrone committed suicide.
"I knew what he went through, I should've said or done something, just wish he knew that life gets better," the Courier Mail reported another student as saying.
Queenstown Police say they are investigating the incidents.
