Police investigating the murder of Manawatu farmer Scott Guy have made an arrest.
Mr Guy was shot dead in his Aorgani Rd driveway in the early hours of July 8 last year, his killer so far managing to evade police.
Those investigating Mr Guy's murder had said they knew the shooting was targeted, not random. The investigation was hampered by a lack of information despite multiple pleas to the public for help.
A 30-year-old man was today arrested at a Feilding address and charged with his murder. He was also charged with arson and criminal damage, relating to incidents at Mr Guy's property in October 2008 and January 2009.
Shortly after her husband's death, Kylee Guy gave birth to the couple’s second son, Drover. She has since moved out of the home she shared with her husband.
At Christmas time last year, Ms Guy made a direct appeal to her husband’s killer, asking him to do the “right and decent thing” and confess.
“Knowing Scotty is not going to be there to watch our son open his presents and share the joy that will be on his face, is the most heartbreaking of all,” she wrote.
“How can you get up every morning and go about your day, with the murder of my husband and our children’s father on your conscience?”
A second Feilding man has been charged and appeared in the Otago District Court earlier today in relation to the arson and criminal damage. He was not charged in relation to the murder.
Police are not seeking anyone else for the murder or related offences at this time.
