The wife of murder-accused Ewen Macdonald has told the jury she never suspected her husband had set fire to a house on her brother Scott Guy's property two years before Mr Guy was killed.
When Anna Macdonald confronted her husband about the arson, he said he had done it for fun.
Once he was arrested for Mr Guy’s murder she started asking questions about the farmhouse he set alight and offensive graffiti he painted on the Guys’ new house.
“I had a lot of questions. I said to him why did you do this? How can you hate someone so much? He said he didn't hate them, he did it for fun.”
They took their children to see the fire damage and Ms Macdonald said her husband’s behaviour never changed.

The jury also heard that when police said three chocolate brown labradors from the farm went missing around the time of Mr Guy's death, they were inundated with information.
But neither the pups, nor their remains have ever been found. Even the specialist police search team couldn't find them.
It was Macdonald who had told police three pups were missing on the day following Mr Guy's death, after he went to feed them. Prosecutors say he had never taken an interest in the pups before.
“He said there were supposed to be seven,” Detective Sergeant Gary Milligan said. “There were eight but one died.”
One hadn't died, it had been given away to a close friend two days before Mr Guy’s death.
Mr Guy’s sister Nikki Guy described Macdonald as "animated" when he revealed he had told police the pups were missing.
“I remember, ‘Well who would have taken the puppies? Was it a clue in the murder? Did someone take them on purpose?’ We were theorising.”
The area where the pups were kept became a crime scene after three distinctive wavy patterned prints were found, the same type of prints found around Mr Guy's body.
The next stage of the trial will look at three notes left in a letterbox on a property Scott and his wife Kylee Guy used to rent. The notes are offensive and directed at Ms Guy, but Macdonald maintains he had nothing to do with them.
