Police investigating the murder of Feilding farmer Scott Guy say they have had a good response after the investigation was featured on popular television crime show Police Ten-7 last night.

About 50 calls from the public have been received since the programme aired.

Police spokeswoman Kim Perks said she would not comment on what had come to light, but said police would follow up on all the information received.

In last night's show, police said they had established the shooting was targeted, not random.

However, the investigation had been hampered by a lack of information and police have appealed again for help from the public.

They are still not sure why he got out of his vehicle near the end of his Aorangi Rd driveway as he went to milk cows on the family farm about 4.30am on July 8. He was found shot dead in front of his ute about 7am.

Police have sightings of two vehicles, seen about 10 minutes apart, travelling past the property between 4.45am and 5am. However, there was no description.

The murder seemed "certainly" linked to the theft of three chocolate Labrador puppies from the property the night before. The puppies have not been found.

"We know that this is not a random attack, that this is actually a targeted attack," Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger said.

The shotgun used in the murder, but not recovered, was also a vital clue. Any information about thefts of firearms and ammunition, or someone acting strangely with a shotgun, was useful.

Police also wanted to hear about anyone in the area whose behaviour has changed markedly since the killing.

"If you think you know and you've been waiting for someone else to put their hand up and give us that information, the time has come to actually stand up and give it to us," she said.

Police have also been tracking down Facebook friends of Mr Guy and his wife Kylee.

They had sent emails to "between 300 and 400" people who were friends with Mr and Mrs Guy on the popular social networking site.

A police email seen by NZPA asked the recipient how they had known the couple and for how long.

The email, sent earlier this week, also asked the recipient to provide their contact details and to reply even if they had already spoken with police.

"The purpose is to complete a background picture of Scott and to identify any information that might be relevant to the investigation," Ms Perks told NZPA.

Mrs Guy recently gave birth to their second son, and has moved out of the home she shared with her husband.
