Fresh from the New Zealand International Film Festival is French film Coco Avant Chanel.
Starring the wonderful Audrey Tautou (Amelie) this is the story of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, the woman who would become the doyenne of the Parisian fashion scene, and one of the most iconic designers of our times.
Talented American actor Alessandro Nivoli (Face Off) wraps his chops pretty flawlessly round the French language to play Arthur 'Boy' Capel, Coco’s one true love, in a story which focuses on the events and people who shaped her.
The film is fittingly very easy on the eye and Coco is very well cast. A trifle long perhaps, but certainly a delight.
Four Stars.
