It’s finally here, the very last chapter of the multi-billion dollar Harry Potter franchise.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is the second half of the final book, and the first delivered in 3D.
It’s nigh on almost impossible not to go into the last chapter of the multi-billion dollar Potter franchise without feeling a heightened sense of emotion, knowing this is the wizard’s last hurrah.
Part 2 picks right up from the rather abrupt ending to part one, our three wizards tumbling headlong into a frightening showdown with Lord Voldemort as all-out war looms with Harry leading the charge.
These films have become progressively darker as the kids grow older, and this final chapter is no exception. Harry must meet his enemy head-on, hunting horcruxes on the way to weaken his opponent, and save Hogwarts.
I don’t pretend to know as much about the intricacies of the Potter universe as the diehards, but to follow this final film, an understanding of what’s come before it is pretty crucial to enjoying it.
And this Potter, like all the other films, is pretty much review-proof for the fans anyway, so let the queuing begin – Potter opens in New Zealand this week.
Director David Yates, a veteran of four Potters and now entrenched in Potter lore, guides his now seasoned players through a well-crafted high-impact grand finale, and delivers where it counts. An epic showdown in gorgeous 3D, packing an emotional punch, this cast and crew should take their final bow with pride before their devoted fans.
