Tim Batt will have his second shot at a Billy T Award after being announced as one of the finalists for 2015.
The 7 Days and Jono and Ben At Ten guest is up against Eli Matthewson, Hamish Parkinson, Matt Stellingwerf and Nic Sampson for the honour.
"It's real awesome," says Batt.
"It's always bloody nice to get recognition when you put in hard work all year round writing jokes and doing gigs. People having the opportunity to give you a thumbs-up is really nice."
Batt was nominated for the first time last year, but lost to Guy Montgomery. Rose Matafeo won in 2013.
Montgomery and Batt are close friends and do a podcast together entitled Worst Idea Of All Time, in which they review the film Grown Ups 2 once a week. It's currently up to episode 34.
"In a lot of ways I regret starting this podcast. Having to watch this movie this many times is harrowing," says Batt.
"But there's a huge sense of accomplishment in getting through this terrible Adam Sandler turd of a film, and it's garnered a lot of international interest for Guy and myself."
The Billy T Awards are named in honour of the legendary Kiwi comedian Billy T James and hope to not only recognise outstanding potential, but help foster and encourage New Zealand comedic talent.
The next winner will be chosen at the 2015 NZ International Comedy Festival show Last Laughs on May 17, 2015.
