Mr Pip, Andrew Adamson's film adaptation of the Lloyd Jones novel, had its New Zealand premiere in Auckland last night.
The film tells the story of the only white man left on Bougainville who brings to life the Dickens novel Great Expectations amongst the civil unrest all around them.
It stars British actor Hugh Laurie who was unable to make it down here for the event because he's on tour with his blues band.
But another musical star was there, as Ali Ikram found out.
