A possible cure for paralysis, a new material that can self-destruct and the answer to why zebras have stripes - it's an eclectic range of subjects making headlines in the science world this week.
Firstly, new research has given hope that paralysis could one day be cured.
Stem cells in mice have been used to replace faulty motor neuron cells. Triggered by light, the new photo-sensitive cells are able to transmit electricity, allowing muscles to move.
Elsewhere, scientists have created dissolvable electronics – opening up the possibility of self-destucting credit cards and phones or temporary implants.
And biologists now think they know why zebras have stripes - and it's not for fashion.
