America's Cup stragglers Ineos Team UK will face an immediate test of their readiness, when they race both their rivals on the Prada Cup challenger series opening day on January 15.
Led by sailing royalty Sir Ben Ainslie, the British team were literally miles off the pace during last month's world series regatta off Auckland, failing to beat any of the other challengers - Luna Rossa of Italy or American Magic - or America's Cup holders Team NZ.
In their final outing, they were lapped by the Kiwis in a race that was eventually called off, when light winds saw both boats fall off their foils and fail to make the time limit.
The Brits obviously had considerable work ahead of them to become competitive in the challenger series and they will find out quickly whether three weeks' development have made any difference to their foiling AC75 Britannia.
The three challengers will face each other four times during the round-robin stages, before the second and third-ranked outfits sail off to meet the top team in the final.
By the end of February, Team NZ will know who they face for the 'Auld Mug', starting March 6.
