STEVEN FERGUSON
Born: May 8, 1980 (40)
Role: Team NZ grinder
America's Cup campaigns: 1
Ferguson hasn't taken the normal path to becoming an America's Cup grinder, but the multi-sport Olympian will provide the power for Te Rehutai.
Son of four-time Olympic canoe champion Ian Ferguson, he contested the 100m and 200m breaststroke at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, while also competing in the pool at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
The 40-year-old then turned his attention to canoeing, where he competed in three straight Olympics, finishing eighth with Ben Fouhy in the K2 1000 event at Athens 2004.
Four years later at Beijing, Ferguson and Mike Walker improved to fifth place in the K2 1000, while at London 2012, he teamed with Daryl Fitzgerald to finished seventh.
Not just settled for two sports, the Aucklander moved to surf lifesaving, where he has won world championship medals in pool swimming and surf ski paddle events.
