Over recent years, Hamish Kerr has broken new ground for New Zealand in an event that has enjoyed very little international success.
We have never medalled in men's high jump at the Commonwealth Games, but Kerr looms as our best-ever hope, after finishing 10th at last year's Tokyo Olympics.
In March, he equalled his national record of 2.31m and tied with Olympic champion Gianmarco Tamberi to capture bronze at the world indoor championships, a height that sees him ranked fifth in the world so far this year - and first in the Commonwealth.
