Defending champions Black Sticks will play for bronze after a heartbreaking shootout loss to England in the women's hockey semi-finals at the Commonwealth Games.
Neither side were able to find the breakthrough in the first four quarters, which forced the shootout at Birmingham.
But it was the hosts who held their nerve after three terrific saves from keeper Madeleine Hinch kept New Zealand scoreless.
Hope Ralph missed the first penalty for the Black Sticks, before Rose Tynan, Katie Doar and Olivia Shannon all had their attempts saved.
Kiwi keeper Grace O'Hanlon saved England's first two attempts, as it looked as if neither side would ever be able to find the decisive blow.
But Isabelle Petter and Hannah Martin both scored the following penalties to secure their spot in the gold medal match against Australia or India.
Meanwhile, the Black Sticks will play the beaten semi-finalist in the bronze medal match on Sunday (NZT).
New Zealand captain Megan Hull admits her team are dejected after the agonising loss, but she's proud of their efforts.
"Sport can be an absolute beauty and it can be a beast - and it's a beast of a day for us today," she said. "There's a lot of hurt and a few shattered hearts out there.
"We'll go home tonight and take the time we need, but I know the character of our group and I know we'll be back fighting for that bronze.
"One word that comes to me is proud," she said. "Because that performance out there tonight was nothing short of incredible from our girls."
"We'll have to make it a beauty in that bronze medal [match]."
