DMX has been locked up.
The 44-year-old rapper, real name Earl Simmons, was apprehended by authorities last month in New York City for failure to pay child support, with the arrest taking place just before he was due to perform at Radio City Music Hall.
Billboard has confirmed a family court judge had him thrown in jail on Tuesday. Apparently DMX will have to serve six months behind bars at the Erie County Holding Center, which is located in Buffalo, New York.
At the time of his arrest last June WPIX-TV reported the star had been taken into custody because he failed to pay US$400,000 worth of child support. It’s also claimed he had other pending charges, as a warrant was issued by the city of White Plains for jumping bail and a robbery complaint was outstanding in Newark, New Jersey. But no charges have been filed against DMX in respect to the case in Newark.
DMX has been in and out of jail over the past two years.
In November 2013 the rapper was arrested for driving on a suspended licence in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Earlier that year in February he was apprehended for driving without a licence and a few months later in July he was arrested for the same offence, as well as driving under influence.
In August 2013 he was taken into custody after the car he was travelling in made an illegal U-turn and was pulled over. He wasn't driving but was arrested as he had an outstanding warrant. He was also cited after marijuana was found in the vehicle.
