Kiwi dance group The Royal Family has won a silver medal at the 2015 World Hip Hop Dance Champs, just falling short of claiming a fourth world title.

The team, hailing from the Palace Dance Studio in South Auckland, won the honour in the MegaCrew category and Lock'n'Lol of Korea taking home gold.

The event took place at Harrah's Resort in California with more than 3500 dancers from 50 countries participating.

The Royal Family won three consecutive world titles between 2011 and 2013.

Fellow Auckland crew The Bradas claimed gold in the adult crew division.

Japan and The Philippines won in three different categories each, but the standout performance this year is said to be that of Kings United from India.
