Candace Bushnell, the writer who Sex and the City's main character Carrie Bradshaw is based on, is putting her Manhattan apartment up for sale.

The pre-war building is located in New York City's Greenwich Village, which is the same neighbourhood where the fake stoop representing Bradshaw's Upper East Side apartment in the TV adaptation was filmed.

Bushnell based Bradshaw, played on TV by Sarah Jessica Parker, on her own life in the mid-1990s when as a  young journalist she wrote a racy column for The New York Observer, had trouble dating in the Big Apple and spent her money on shoes rather than food. Although, judging from the Manhattan loft, she probably didn't have to choose.

Another fun fact is that the real-life Mr Big, aka Chris Noth, also lives in the building.

The apartment features a huge foyer, chandeliers, built-in bookcases and fireplaces, a dining room and 1.5 bathrooms. The pad is currently on the market for US$2.6 million.
