Rising actress Shanice Williams has landed the iconic role of Dorothy in NBC's hotly-anticipated live TV musical The Wiz.
Williams, 18, was unveiled as the star of the Wizard of Oz-themed production on yesterday on US talk show Today.
The theatre actress was cast in the musical after producers auditioned hundreds of African-American women aged 18 to 27.
Williams tells Today host Matt Lauer, "I don't even know what is in store but this is always what I wanted to do!"
The musical is due to air in the US on December 3. Williams joins other previously announced cast members including Queen Latifah as the Wizard of Oz, David Alan Grier as the Cowardly Lion, and Mary . Blige as the Wicked Witch of the West.
