The head of Wellington's ambitious movie museum and convention centre is relieved the project finally has the green light.
Councillors unanimously voted for the $134 million build on a waterfront site yesterday.
Director George Hickton says Sir Peter Jackson and Sir Richard Taylor's project has been in the pipeline for a long time.
"This is a terribly exciting moment," he says. "For well over a decade we've actually been looking for a site where we could locate a movie museum, which would showcase the creative art that exists within this city."
The museum is scheduled to be open to the public in late 2018.
