Indie rock musician Cat Power has postponed her two sold-out New Zealand shows due to illness.

The shows were set to take place in Auckland tonight and Wellington tomorrow.

The musician, whose real name is Chan Marshall, suffers from Hereditary Angioedema (HAE), a potentially fatal rare blood disease that causes swelling around the throat, oesophagus and internal organs.

Cat Power has toured New Zealand and Australia a number of times in the last 18 years. This is the first time she has been forced to postpone any shows and is reportedly determined to make it back as soon as possible in good health.

Tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled dates, which will be released shortly.
