Beyonce has released her sixth album – Lemonade – on music-streaming service Tidal.

The 12-song album is packed with a variety of guest appearances, including Kendrick Lamar, Jack White, James Blake and the Weekend.

The album has been released with a mysterious short video, and a statement describing the album as a "conceptual project based on every woman's journey of self-knowledge and healing".

The album is expected to touch on Beyonce's ancestral roots, and deeper themes of racism, misogyny and body image.

Beyonce teased Lemonade in an hour-long HBO special with brief, thriller-like clips.

Beyonce is a co-owner of Tidal alongside her husband, Jay-Z, and other stars.

One single from Lemonade, 'Formation', was released the day before her Super Bowl halftime show, exclusively for streaming on the service.

In late April she will begin her Formation World Tour, which will run through the US summer.
