British filmmaker Guy Hamilton, director of four James Bond films including Goldfinger, has died aged 93.

He passed away on the Spanish island of Majorca where he lived. The cause of death has not been confirmed.

Hamilton worked with Sean Connery on Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever, then his replacement Sir Roger Moore on Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun.

His final feature directorial credit was Try This One For Size with David Carradine in 1989.

Hamilton was born in Paris in 1922 to British parents, beginning his career at the Victorine Studios in Nice in the early '40s. When the Nazis invaded he emigrated to London, before serving with the Royal Navy throughout the Second World War.

"Incredibly, incredibly saddened to hear the wonderful director Guy Hamilton has gone to the great cutting room in the sky. 2016 is horrid," Sir Roger Moore said on Twitter.

Hamilton was married to actress Naomi Chance, who passed away in 2003.
