After being dropped by Paramount Pictures for release, The Little Prince has been picked up by Netflix and the streaming service has announced the date for its release.
The film is based on the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry 1943 novella, where a Little Prince from a planet in the sky goes on an epic journey.
He learns about different kinds of people and their problems, about a friendship from a fox and about love from a self-absorbed rose.
The film follows a little girl whose mother has planned out her entire life for her, every minute of every day, making her afraid to grow up.
Her neighbour, the aviator who met the Little Prince years before, then introduces her place where everything is possible -- the world of the Little Prince. And teaches what is most important is what is invisible to the eye.
The animated film also makes use of stop motion animation, contrasting the classic with the added story.
Director Mark Osbourne told EW he wanted to create a cinematic experience that had an emotional impact similar to that of reading the book.
"I really saw the movie as an opportunity to pay tribute to the power of the book. Not just adapt the book word for word, but a chance to adapt what the book means to people, and how it affects their lives," he said.
The Little Prince will be released in theatres and on Netflix in August.
