A new comedic video on YouTube that highlights some of the major plot holes in Suicide Squad has racked up nearly a million hits in less than a day.
The superhero film by DC Comics stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Viola Davis, and features a group of villains being released from jail to go on dangerous black ops missions.
'Suicide Squad Sales Pitch', uploaded to YouTube by Jenny Nicholson, sees her play two characters in the film, with one explaining the concept to the other to make fun of just how nonsensical it is.
Warning: Embedded video contains spoilers.
Part of Nicholson's dialogue is as follows:
"So how would this be different from sending in a team of soldiers?"
"These guys are bad guys."
"So, basically you're sending in bad guys so you don't have to risk innocent men's lives?"
"No, there will be soldiers there too."
"Wait, what?"
"About 50 of them."
"What are they doing?"
"They're guarding the Suicide Squad."
One of the more major problems with the plot of Suicide Squad is also made fun of - that the titular squad is made up of dangerous villains when the likes of Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Aquaman are active in the same movie universe.
"If you can get on the squad by being a good fighter, then why are there any villains on the squad?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well there are all these incredibly famous people running around with super powers and you even said earlier you were in contact with Batman. So why don't you put together a team of good guys who are powerful and also not dangerous criminals?"
"...Oh my God!"
Suicide Squad has been the subject of much heated debate online, with a staunch fanbase helping it overcome dire reviews to achieve box office takings of more than US$220 million so far.
The nonsensical plot is dissected more fully in Evan Saathoff's blog post on BirthMoviesDeath.com.
Another criticism of the film features in an open letter published online, allegedly from a former employee of Warner Bros, the studio behind the DC Comics films.
"When I left my screening of Suicide Squad ... I was annoyed and let down and frustrated as well, but mostly I was just angry," writes the disgruntled, anonymous author.
"It is unfathomable to me that Warner Bros could mess up a movie starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and the Joker so completely."
The letter goes on to lambast Warner Bros head Kevin Tsujihara over staff layoffs and other recent releases such as Jersey Boys, Blended, Pan, Jupiter Ascending and Sir Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy.
Suicide Squad is in cinemas now.
