Real Housewives of Auckland star Julia Sloane is claiming she was bullied and defamed by Race Relations Commissioner Dame Susan Devoy after using a racial slur against a castmate.
Sloane referred to fellow housewife Michelle Blanchard as a "boat n*****" in last week's explosive episode, prompting a stern reprimand from Dame Susan.
Sloane's lawyers have since written to the Human Rights Commission claiming she was "defamed" and "bullied" by Dame Susan.
The Commission said in a statement it "vehemently" denies Sloane's allegations.
"We regularly comment on issues already in the public domain whether they be relating to a politician’s speech, a rugby game or a reality TV show."
The commission said its "That's Us" anti-racism campaign was not launched in response to Ms Sloane's comments and had been in development since 2014.
The campaign has seen hundreds of New Zealanders share their personal stories of racial intolerance.
Sloane's representatives said she had no comment to make at this stage.
