The latest home showcased on Grand Designs NZ was Christchurch earthquake refugees Andy Macbeth and Jo Denton's modern-day castle against the elements in alpine Queenstown.
Their site includes what they call 'Stonehenge' - huge rock foundations left on site by a former owner who abandoned plans for a castle-like home.
The couple's dream was to include build the castle elements in a modernist energy-efficient 'passive house' to protect their family against earthquakes and climate extremes.
"Andy and Jo have created a home worthy of its magnificent site," said host Chris Moller.
"It's a home that's grand in its design and engineering, yet sits harmoniously in the land. A family sanctuary that's been a long time coming, but well worth the wait."
