Tom Cruise has rigorously defended his controversial religion Scientology as it faces renewed criticisms.
In an interview promoting Jack Reacher 2: Never Go Back, the Top Gun star was asked about the infamous movement's chequered past.
He responded passionately.
"It's something that has helped me incredibly in my life. I've been a Scientologist for over 30 years," he said.
"It's something, you know, without it, I wouldn't be where I am. So it's a beautiful religion. I'm incredibly proud."
Scientology has long-been criticised for its alleged cult-like behaviour, with ex-members making accusations of 'mind control' and abuse.
Recent documentaries My Scientology Movie and Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief have reintroduced the church's controversies to public conversation.
Cruise, 54, first encountered Scientology in 1986 when he was introduced to it by Mimi Rogers, who he was married to from 1987 - 1990.
