It was the final Halloween at the White House for President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, and they went out in style.

On Monday (local time) the Obamas hosted 4000 people, mostly Washington-area children, for some trick-or-treating.

President Obama handed out sweets, and encouraged kids to eat as much candy as possible.

"You guys all look scary, or cool, or whatever you're trying to be," he joked.

"We hope, parents, that on this day at least, you don't have to pay attention to Michelle and healthy eating."

He then handed out goodie bags, which included cookies, M&Ms, and fruit bars.

"In fact, the more candy, the later you eat the candy the better," he said with a smile.

"Because I think that you being up all night with a sugar rush is exactly what they're looking for."

Then, to finish things off, the First Couple celebrated the night with a recreation of Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' dance.

While President Obama's dancing skills may not challenge the King of Pop's, it still left the kids laughing.
