Friends actor Matthew Perry has revealed that he and a friend used to bully current Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau out of "pure jealousy" while at primary school.
The two both attended Rockcliffe Park Public School while growing up in Ottawa, Ontario - but Perry was a couple of years ahead of him, and let slip on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he beat Mr Trudeau up when he was about 10.
"My friend Chris Murray, who was also in the fifth grade in Canada, reminded me that we actually beat up Justin Trudeau. We both beat him up," he said.
"I think he was excelling in a sport that we weren't, so it was pure jealousy - and, uh, you know, we beat him up."
Host Jimmy Kimmel pointed out that at the time the bullying occurred, Trudeau's father Pierre Trudeau would have been in power - but Perry said that had nothing to do with their abuse of his son.
"I don't think that's the reason we beat him up - I think he was just the only kid in school we could beat up," he explained.
"I'm not bragging right now - this is terrible. I was a stupid kid and I didn't want to beat him up. In fact, at one point I think I even tried to turn it into love play."
Perry went on to say that while what he did was far from a good thing, it may have helped Mr Trudeau on his path to achieving the political success he has.
"I think it was rather instrumental in him, you know, going to such great heights and becoming the Prime Minister. I think he said 'I'm gonna rise above this and become Prime Minister'," he said.
When asked whether he'd ever spoken to Mr Trudeau about their previous rivalry, Perry said he hadn't.
"No, no, I feel shame and I don't wanna talk about it," he joked.
