One of the biggest Hollywood war blockbusters this year will have a Kiwi flavour as ex-Shortland Street actor Beulah Koale makes his debut.

Thank You for Your Service is a drama based on the non-fiction book by David Finkel, which follows a group of soldiers who return from Iraq and are impacted by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Born and raised in Auckland's Otara, Koale is of Samoan descent and will play an American Samoan character called Solo, based on the real life story of solider Tausolo Aieti.

Koale was known for his role as troubled teen Jared Afeaki on Shortland Street between 2012-2014.

Thank You for Your Service also stars some big Hollywood hitters, including Whiplash's Miles Teller, comedienne Amy Schumer and The Magnificent Seven's Haley Bennett.

Fellow Kiwi Keisha Castle-Hughes will also star.

The film is set to release in the US on October 27, but there is no New Zealand release date yet.
