Fresh Kid Ice, a founding member of the controversial hip-hop group 2 Live Crew, has died aged 53.
He formed the influential Miami group with DJ Mr Mixx and Amazing Vee in 1984.
Fresh Kid Ice, real name Christopher Wong Won, died in hospital due to a "medical condition", 2 Live Crew's manager said, according to reports.
The 'Me So Horny' rappers became infamous for hyper-sexualised lyrics, with their 1989 album As Nasty As They Wanna Be being ruled obscene by a Florida judge. This led to the arrest of a record store owner who refused to stop selling the album and the group themselves being arrested in 1990 after a live performance.
Fresh Kid Ice was born in Trinidad and Tobago. Of Trinidadian and Chinese descent, he is often credited with being the first prominent Asian rapper.
He served in the US Air Force for four years before getting into music and eventually formed his own label, Chinaman Records.
In 2016, he published his memoir, My Rise 2 Fame.
Fellow 2 Live Crew member Uncle Luke has taken to Twitter to pay tribute.
