Chris Brown is telling his side of the story about his brutal 2009 assault on Rihanna in a revealing new documentary.
In a clip from Chris Brown: Welcome to My Life posted on Facebook, the 'Kiss Kiss' hitmaker explains why he savagely bashed his then-girlfriend, claiming it was just one of many fights the pair had.
Brown, 28, describes how their relationship went downhill after he confessed to an infidelity, after which they often fought.
"She hated me," he said.
"She just didn't trust me after that. From there, it just went downhill because it would be fights, it would be verbal fights, physical fights as well. Mutual sides, it is the first time I get to say anything."
On the day of the 2009 assault, Brown says Rihanna saw a text message from the woman which angered her.
"She starts going off, she throws the phone, [she said] 'I hate you'," he says.
"She hit me a couple more times... I remember she tried to kick me - but then I really hit her, with a closed fist. I punched her. I busted her lip."
Elaborating further, Brown says he became more enraged when Rihanna spat blood in his face.
"I was in shock... I felt like a f**king monster."
Brown claims he pulled over in order to try and resolve their fight.
"She takes the keys out of the car and fakes it like she throws them out of the window," he says.
"I get out the car and I'm looking for the keys and somebody yelled and she yells out her door, 'Help, he's trying to kill me.'"
In June 2009, Brown peaded guilty to one count of assault with the intent of doing great bodily injury, for which he was sentenced to five years of probation.
