Beloved Kiwi DVD supply service Fatso has announced "it's time to say goodbye".
The service has allowed users to pay a monthly subscription fee to choose between 32,000 DVDs, delivered and returned through the mail. The Auckland-based service has been in operation since 2004, but it looks like it's time for the last discs to be delivered.
Fatso tweeted a statement on Wednesday morning announcing it'll be ending its services on November 23, and is joining online streaming service Neon.
"Our team will be channelling their energies there to bring you a kick-ass movie and TV streaming service!" it wrote.
On a page set up on its site with questions and answers about the merger, the Fatso team wrote that "although we love the range of titles DVD and Blu-ray offer, the time has come to move as much of our library into the digital world, and Neon is the business to do that."
They also say they're planning to give their large library of DVDs away to hospitals, libraries, schools and retirement villages.
Fatso subscribers will be offered a 50 percent discount for Neon for their first three months. Any DVDs people have after November 23 they will be allowed to keep.
"Here's to the digital future!" Fatso wrote in its statement.
